Write It Out To Boost Your Performance Under Stress

This is a great article which highlights the role that working memory plays when trying to perform well under pressure, and a specific technique to improve your performance in those situations.

In the article, Dr. Beilock highlights how working memory can become overloaded in pressure-filled situations.  When working memory is overloaded people “lose the brain power necessary to excel”. This is also known as choking under pressure.

Her suggestion is to write out your thoughts and concerns prior to a pressure filled situation, to unload your working memory, and in the process free it up to focus on and excel at the task at hand.
